SITXFSA006 - Participate in Safe Food Handling Practices
In New South Wales, Food Safety Supervisor recognition requires completion of the required national unit(s) and the NSW Food Authority's mandatory Key Focus Areas before a NSW Food Authority Food Safety Supervisor certificate can be issued.
NSW residents complete the national unit first, then a short NSW Key Focus Areas module. Both are included with Eclipse Education - no addtional fees or charges. On completion, you receive your Statement of Attainment and your NSW Food Safety Supervisor certificate.
NSW requirement: To receive the NSW Food Authority certificate, you must complete SITXFSA006, the prerequisite SITXFSA005 (Use hygienic practices for food safety), and the NSW Food Authority Key Focus Areas.

This course is delivered online with a required workplace assessment.
Online learning and assessments - Complete the theory at your own pace in our student portal. Save your progress and return anytime.
Workplace assessment - Students must organise access to an approved operational commercial kitchen. A supervisor or industry expert observes you across a minimum of 3 separate occasions totalling at least 6 hours, using a checklist we provide.
Host Site Pre-Approval and Declaration - Choose a commercial kitchen and ask a supervisor or food handler to complete a short online form confirming the site is suitable and safe. The form is sent directly to Eclipse Education for review and approval, and must be approved before any shifts begin. We provide this form when you start your online theory.
Eclipse placement forms - During your workplace shifts you will complete three Eclipse-controlled digital forms in the kitchen: a Temperature Monitoring Log, a Food Disposal Record, and a Food Safety Incident Report. These are submitted directly and securely to Eclipse Education and form part of your assessment evidence.
We provide all forms and guidance once you enrol. The responsibility for finding a suitable commercial kitchen lies with the student, and we make the process as simple and supported as possible.
NSW learners will complete the national unit(s) first. Once completed, an additional NSW-specific Key Focus Areas module will automatically become available in the student portal and can be completed at the learner's own pace.
How It Works — Step by Step
Complete the online theory — Work through all theory modules and knowledge assessments at your own pace in the Eclipse student portal.
Get your placement approved — Submit the Host Site Pre-Approval and Declaration form for your chosen commercial kitchen. Eclipse reviews and approves the site before any shifts begin.
Complete your workplace practical — A supervisor or industry expert at your approved site observes you performing real food safety tasks across a minimum of 3 occasions totalling at least 6 hours and completes our checklist.
Submit your Eclipse forms — During your shifts, complete and submit three digital forms (Temperature Monitoring Log, Food Disposal Record, and Food Safety Incident Report) directly to Eclipse from the kitchen.
Complete the NSW Key Focus Areas module and receive your certificates — After the national units are complete, finish the NSW-specific Key Focus Areas module in the portal. Eclipse then issues your Statement of Attainment and notifies the NSW Food Authority so your NSW Food Safety Supervisor certificate can be issued.
