SITXFSA006 - Participate in Safe Food Handling Practices
In New South Wales, Food Safety Supervisor recognition requires completion of the required national unit(s) and the NSW Food Authority's mandatory Key Focus Areas before a NSW Food Authority Food Safety Supervisor certificate can be issued.
NSW residents complete the national unit first, then a short NSW Key Focus Areas module. Both are included with Eclipse Education - no addtional fees or charges. On completion, you receive your Statement of Attainment and your NSW Food Safety Supervisor certificate.
NSW requirement: To receive the NSW Food Authority certificate, you must complete SITXFSA006, the prerequisite SITXFSA005 (Use hygienic practices for food safety), and the NSW Food Authority Key Focus Areas.

This course includes workplace practical assessment. Before enrolling, please make sure you have access to a suitable food-handling workplace that can support the required practical tasks, supervisor or industry expert involvement, and workplace video recording.
Mode of Delivery
This course is delivered online with a required workplace practical assessment.
Online learning and assessments - Complete the theory at your own pace in our student portal. Save your progress and return anytime.
Workplace practical assessment - Students must organise access to an approved operational food preparation area, such as a commercial kitchen. The practical assessment includes workplace video tasks, workplace reporting, and supervisor or industry expert support. The worksite must allow the student to safely complete the required food handling activities and record the video tasks in the workplace.
Host Site Pre-Approval and Declaration - Before any workplace practical assessment begins, the student must nominate a workplace and supervisor or industry expert for approval. A short online form must be completed to confirm the site is suitable for the required food handling activities, that the student can complete the practical assessment tasks there, and that workplace video recording can occur in a way that protects privacy. The form is reviewed by Eclipse Education and must be approved before workplace assessment begins.
Privacy during workplace recording - Videos must only show the student and the immediate work area. Customers, other staff members, computer screens, personal information, and unrelated workplace activity must not be recorded.
Workplace evidence requirements - Once the worksite is approved, students complete the required workplace practical evidence, including workplace video tasks and workplace reporting forms provided by Eclipse Education. Full instructions and access to these tasks are provided after approval.
We provide all instructions, forms, and guidance once you enrol. The responsibility for finding a suitable workplace lies with the student, and we make the process as simple and supported as possible.
NSW learners will complete the national unit(s) first. Once completed, an additional NSW-specific Key Focus Areas module will automatically become available in the student portal and can be completed at the learner's own pace.
How It Works — Step by Step
Start your online theory. Complete the online learning and assessment questions at your own pace in our student portal. Your progress saves automatically, so you can leave and come back anytime.
Organise your workplace for approval. You will need access to a suitable operational food preparation area for your practical assessment. A workplace supervisor or industry expert must complete our Host Site Pre-Approval form so we can review the site and confirm it is suitable.
Wait for workplace approval. Workplace practical assessment cannot begin until Eclipse Education has approved the worksite and nominated supervisor or industry expert.
Complete your workplace practical evidence. Once approved, you will complete the required workplace practical tasks, including workplace video submissions and workplace reporting forms.
Complete the NSW Key Focus Areas module and receive your certificates. After the national units are complete, finish the NSW-specific Key Focus Areas module in the portal. Eclipse then issues your Statement of Attainment and notifies the NSW Food Authority so your NSW Food Safety Supervisor certificate can be issued.
