Please Note: This Is a Non-Accredited Short Course

This Victorian barista course is a practical, non-accredited short course. It is built to get you confident on a commercial espresso machine quickly, and you receive an Eclipse Education Certificate of Completion rather than a formal qualification. If you need accredited hospitality training instead, see our full course list or call us on (03) 5201 0568 and we will point you to the right option.

How the Course Works

The course runs in two parts. You do the theory online in your own time first, then come in to Geelong or Ballarat for the hands-on session. Both parts are included in the one price.

1

Online Theory - About 4 Hours, Self-Paced

After you book, you get access to the online theory. Work through it whenever it suits you, on a phone, tablet or computer - you can stop and come back as many times as you need. It covers coffee knowledge, equipment, hygiene and the drinks you will be making. Please finish this before your classroom date so the practical session is spent on the machine rather than catching up.

2

Classroom Practical - 3 to 4 Hours in Geelong or Ballarat

Come to your chosen Victorian classroom on your booked date and spend the session on a real commercial coffee machine with a barista trainer. This is the hands-on part: grinding and dosing, tamping, pulling and tasting shots, texturing milk, pouring cafe-style milk coffees and cleaning down. Just bring yourself - all equipment, coffee and milk are provided.

Who Should Attend?

This Victorian barista course is highly recommended for anybody who wants to kick-start a hospitality career, maintain employment in the cafe industry, or build practical espresso coffee skills for work.

What You'll Learn in Barista Training

The course is built around the practical cafe skills you actually use behind the machine, from setting the grinder through to pouring silky textured milk. You cover the background knowledge in the self-paced online theory first, then put all six areas below into practice on a real coffee machine during your classroom session.

1

Organise Coffee Workstation

Prepare the coffee workstation, equipment, ingredients and service area before making coffee.

2

Grind and Dose Coffee

Select and grind coffee beans, set up the grinder, dose and tamp for espresso extraction.

3

Extract Espresso Coffee

Extract espresso, taste and assess its quality, diagnose extraction issues, make grinder adjustments and serve espresso coffee beverages.

4

Milk Texturing & Pouring

Undertake the milk texturing process and learn to pour smooth, cafe-style milk coffees.

5

Customer Orders

Advise customers, take espresso coffee orders and understand common drinks such as latte, cappuccino, flat white, long black and piccolo.

6

Clean Espresso Equipment

Clean espresso equipment, grinders and the coffee workstation so the next service starts safely and professionally.

Upon Completion You'll Receive:

  • Certificate of Completion - Issued by Eclipse Education for the barista course
  • Print Your Own Certificate - Available from your student portal after the class
  • Practical Cafe Skills - Espresso, milk texturing and cafe-style milk coffees you can use straight away
  • Something to Show Employers - Evidence of hands-on coffee training for cafe job applications
